Urban Axes Throws Bullseyes

Throwing an axe… for fun?! If you haven’t tried your hand at axe throwing with Urban Axes, you’re missing out! Owner Krista Paton started Urban Axes after falling in love with axe throwing herself. In the Square since 2018, Urban Axes is a community hub where people gather to connect, drink, and, yes, throw axes! Read on to hear Krista’s fervor for this up-and-coming sport.

Tell us a little bit about Urban Axes!

Urban Axes is Somerville's home of indoor, recreational axe throwing serving beer, wine and canned cocktails. We specialize in group events from 4-100 people, but also make a great date night! Once you love it, you can join one of our league nights.  

What inspired you to start a business?

I discovered axe throwing while working in Toronto, Canada and I knew I had to bring this exciting experience to the US. It was less about starting a business and more about "America NEEDS this."  

What aspect of your business makes you most proud to be a business leader in our community?

Our employees and league community are what makes me the most proud to be a business leader. We have 30+ coaches and a league community of about 150 that have chosen to call Urban Axes home (at least one night a week!). Watching this group of people evolve from strangers to friends, traveling and competing together in something no one had heard of a few years ago is a pretty incredible thing to be a part of.  

Is there anything else you think a Square customer would like to know?

We have a parking lot for our customers, making your night out in Union Square easy!

Urban Axes is open Tue-Thurs 5-10pm, Fri 4-11pm, Sat 12-11pm, & Sun 12-10pm.
