Building upon a 45+ year legacy in Union, the family behind Reliable Market welcomes the neighborhood to share a meal in their newest establishment, K-Bok Korean Fried Chicken. Sister- and brother-in-law duo Yajaira and Paul Casserly, K-Bok’s co-owners, opened their doors to fried chicken fanatics in December 2025. Diners often see the friendly faces of the entire extended Casserly family—Pokye, Myo Smith, and Ongu Cho —ready to introduce the community to Korean comfort food.
Tell us a little bit about K-Bok!
K-Bok is a Korean fried chicken spot in the heart of Union Square serving crispy double-fried chicken, Korean comfort food, cocktails, and late-night vibes. We host trivia nights, DJs, and community events that bring people together.
What inspired you to start a business? How did this feeling grow once you actually started your business?
Before the pandemic, we loved serving food through our kitchen at Reliable Market. Our customers would often tell us how much joy the food brought them, and that meant so much to us because these are recipes that Pokye, Myo, and Ongu have been cooking since their grandparents taught them.
Our family also owned a sushi restaurant in Winthrop called Arigato back in the 80s, so being able to share food with the community again through K-Bok feels incredibly special. It is a passion we truly love, and every kind word from our customers reminds us how grateful we are to do this work every day.
What makes you most proud to be a business leader in our community?
Food has always been at the heart of our family, and being able to share recipes, hospitality, and traditions that have been passed down through generations is very meaningful to us. We want to create more than just a restaurant; we want to create a place where people feel welcomed, cared for, and connected to the community.
How do you #LoveUnionSquare?
If you’re a local musician or DJ, we’d love the opportunity to have you play at our restaurant. Union Square is full of hidden gems, not just places, but people, and we’re always excited to showcase the talent in our neighborhood.
If you were to plan the perfect outing in Union Square, where would you go and what would you do?
I'd start with a BOBA TEA at K-Bok, then throw some axes at Urban Axes! Then go shopping at our local vintage shops!
