Taking Care of (Beer) Business Pizza Party & Chat w/Harpoon

  • Workbar Union 31 Union Square Somerville, MA, 02143 United States (map)

Boston Area Beer Enthusiasts Society and Friends!

Let's talk about the business of beer! BABES member Laurel Ruma will give a talk about Big Beer and how craft beer is meeting the challenges of a crowded and growing market. Carolyn Cummings from Harpoon will discuss with us what it's like to be part of the largest employee-owned brewery in Massachusetts.

It'll be a great night with pizza, Harpoon beer, and a fantastic discussion--you'll never look at a beer menu the same!

And! WorkBar has so generously offered free work space to any BABE that day--come see what co-working is all about!

This BABES event is open to everyone, but due to limited space, a ticket is required ($5 to hold your seat and pizza). Harpoon is generously bringing some very tasty beers for us to try. Many thanks to Workbar Union Square (http://boston.workbar.com/neighborhood/somerville/) for hosting the BABES again.

In 2016, ABInbev bought SABMiller in one of the world's largest mergers. Now, due to its massive "brand portfolio," 1 out of every 3 beers sold worldwide is an Anheuser-Busch beer. Think this doesn't affect you? Think again: as Big Beer gets bigger, it will target the craft, homebrew, and distribution markets in ways we haven't seen yet. But it's not just Big Beer that is shifting business models and thinking to brew, serve, and sell the best American beer. Boston's own Harpoon is a shining example of a brewery that chose a different path to fund growth--the Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). Bring your questions!
