Sculpt the Square with Illana & Jocelyn

Published April 2023

Meet the artists behind the geometric sculptures popping up around Somernova’s campus, Ilana Krepchin and Jocelyn Kasow! Ilana and Jocelyn opened Studio for Sculptural Arts, located at 24R Dane St, in December 2022 and have been developing classes and events for the community ever since.

Give us a brief description of your business!

Studio for Sculptural Arts is an art studio offering classes in a variety of subjects from welding to stained glass to knitting, as well as offering space, equipment rentals, and opportunities for exhibition. We also participate in open studios several times a year, including the upcoming Somerville Open Studios.

What inspired you to start your business?

We are both artists who recognize the joys and challenges inherent in this path and in particular, challenges for sculptors who often require expensive equipment, training and space. We are just getting started with this brand new entity and are excited to share our passion for making art with our community.

What makes you most proud to be a business leader in our community?

We are artists first, the business aspect comes second. We know the importance of creativity for everyone and we are proud to work toward providing those opportunities to our community.

How do you #LoveUnionSquare?

We have both lived in Union Square for 20 years, each own a home here, send kids to school here, and own a business here. Union Square is our home.

Studio for Sculptural Arts is currently open by appointment only.
