strategic plan that overlays the four-approach of the
Main Street model to address four priority areas (our
four Ps) of Pedestrian accessibility, development of
commercial Properties, increased participation of People
through volunteer activities, and a more engaged public
in the Process of local change.

c 3 non-profit status from the IRS.

With
Somerville Arts Council created report detailing changes
in use of commercial properties in CBD of Union Square.
Showed since launch of USMS and ArtsUnion shift of
12,000 square feet from vacant/industrial uses to
cultural uses.

Conducted
study of commercial properties that included individual
meetings with commercial property owners and collection
of financial data. Revealed that since launch of USMS
there has been $4M in commercial real estate
transactions in the Union Square Central Business
District and private investment of $611K in commercial
renovation.

Conducted
business inventory and demonstrated since launch of USMS
net increase of 8 businesses. These have been primarily
sought-for pedestrian-oriented uses in first floor
spaces.

Assisting
with research of design and architecture cluster in
Massachusetts and Somerville.

Held Third
Annual Meeting and fundraiser at Machu Picchu Restaurant
with guest speaker Meri Jenkins speaking on cultural
economic development with approximately 50 guests.

Conducted
fundraising activities including earned income, direct
donations and in-kind contributions that made up 35% of
total budget.

Recruited
new members. Raised $1,195 in member fees. Currently
have 98 members.

Assisted
with development of partner organization East Somerville
Main Streets. Serving as fiscal sponsor for the new
group.

Drafting
program to recruit, train and effectively engage
volunteers in USMS projects. Program is scheduled to
launch October 2008.
