What the Fluff? A Tribute to Union Square
Invention IT'S THE
FLUFF BOY
COMIC BOOK ! |
For the 2008
festival five Somerville artists created a 32-page
full-scale comic book. The Somerville graphic artists tell how Jimmy, a sweet
youth in Union Square, is transformed into a Fluff-filled super hero and
through struggles comes to terms with his new sticky super powers.
Also includes the additional tale "The Stuff of Fluff" A Marshmelodrama"
and a collection of real and imagined promotions in the oddstyle of
comic book advertising.

Matthew Reidsma has published the monthly comic book,
High Maintenance Machine, since August of 2006. He lives in
Union Square with his wife and two cats, and believes strongly
that the 1985's "Real Genius" starring Val Kilmer is the
greatest movie ever made. Also, he has an unhealthy affection
for ginger ale, and a tendency to write in the third person when
asked about himself. You can see more of his work on the web at
matthewreidsma.com, or email him at
mreidsma@gmail.com. |

Liz Prince has been drawing comics since she was in 3rd
grade, and her work has been published since 1994 when she began
regularly contributing to the Santa Fe based zine Are We
There Yet? From there, the offers didn't stop coming. Her
comics have been featured in many zines/comic anthologies, 7
gallery shows, and she has produced 6 mini-comics. Influenced by
autobiographical greats like Evan Dorkin, Ariel Schrag, James
Kochalka, and Jeffrey Brown, her comics mix her real-life
foibles with charming cartooning and comic timing. Her fans have
described her work as being "cute," making them feel "warm &
fuzzy," or simply being "too much information." Liz's first full
length book Will You Still Love Me If I Wet the Bed? (Top
Shelf Productions) received the 2005 Ignatz Award for
Outstanding Debut, and her new comic strip collection,
Delayed Replays (also Top Shelf), is in stores now! You can
read selected comics online at

Joe Quinones graduated in 2003 from the Rhode Island School
of Design with a B.F.A in Illustration. He now works as a
freelance artist with recent clients that include DC Comics, Mad
Magazine and Devil's Due Publishing. Joe hadn't even tasted
Fluff until very recently, but has since become a fan -
occasionally experiencing ghost marshmallow smells, and dreaming
of Fluffernutter sandwiches. To see more of Joe's work, check

Maris Wicks. I am Maris. I live in Somerville, MA. I make
comics, stuffed animals and bad puns. I have been known to
dissect squids, talk to moon snails and handle horseshoe crabs.
In short, I really like invertebrates. As a small child, I was
only allowed one jar of Marshmallow Fluff per year. I would
ration my Fluff intake to make that jar last. Now that I'm a
grown-up, I must confess, I eat more than one jar of Fluff a
year. More mindless jabbering and doodles by me can be found at

The
Fluff Boy Comic book will be on sale at the
What the Fluff Festival on September 27 in Union Square and at
Hub Comics, 19
Bow Street, Somerville.
