What the Fluff?
A Tribute to Union Square Invention

FABULOUS PHARAOH OF FLUFF

2008

All hail, the Fabulous Pharaoh of Fluff!

Do you have the Right Fluff to be held up as the leader of our sticky horde?

TO ENTER:

Prepare a campaign speech of no more than 300 words explaining why you should be our leader and how you will stick to your campaign promises.  Alliteration and rhyme is particularly encouraged.

Arrive at the festival between 4 and 4:30 pm with three copies of your statement to register your candidacy.

Glad hand with the crowd to secure their votes at our special polling station.  If you gain enough endorsements you'll be selected to speak before the crowds.

The winner will be formally sworn in at 6:30 from the Main Stage by City Clerk John Long -- there he is pictured below -- and crowned by a magnificent creation by local creative masters CostumeWorks.

The “What the Fluff? A Tribute to Union Square Invention” is a festival in Union Square, Somerville, MA taking place on Saturday, September 27, 2008. (Raindate Saturday 28) It celebrates Union Square resident Archibald Query who invented Marshmallow Fluff here in 1917. Artists, musical and theatrical performers, inventors, and humorists reflect on this great American foodstuff in a madcap festival.

Produced by Union Square Main Streets, a non-profit organization working to increase the vibrancy of this Somerville neighborhood by enhancing its business district through active community collaboration. Presented as part of ArtsUnion, a initiative of the Somerville Arts Council with numerous partners including Union Square Main Streets and funded by the Massachusetts Cultural Council to boost the cultural and economic diversity of Union Square.
