What the Fluff? A Tribute to Union Square Invention

The “What the Fluff? A Tribute to Union Square Invention” is a festival in Union Square, Somerville, MA taking place on Saturday, September 29, 2007. (Raindate Saturday 30) It celebrates Union Square resident Archibald Query who invented Marshmallow Fluff here in 1917. Artists, musical and theatrical performers, inventors, and humorists reflect on this great American foodstuff in a madcap festival.


Bring us a batch of five (5) samples of your best original Fluff recipe or your creation of a classic Fluff treat along with a written copy of the recipe

Registration is 4:00 to 4:30 pm during the festival.

Winners announced 6:30 ish from the main stage.

 Grand Prize:

Exclusive, private Tour of the Durkee-Mower factory, the fine manufacturers of Marshmallow Fluff

 

Other prizes include gift certificates to The Independent Restaurant and a One-of-a-Kind trophy

“What the Fluff?” takes place in the heart of Somerville’s Union Square, where Washington Street, Somerville Avenue and Prospect Street meet. The event includes a cooking contest, Fluff-related shenanigans for prizes, Fluff treats, musical and theatrical performances.

Last year's Grand Prize was won by Jill Downer with her classic Whoopie Pies.

Produced by Union Square Main Streets, a non-profit organization working to increase the vibrancy of this Somerville neighborhood by enhancing its business district through active community collaboration. Presented as part of ArtsUnion, a initiative of the Somerville Arts Council with numerous partners including Union Square Main Streets and funded by the Massachusetts Cultural Council to boost the cultural and economic diversity of Union Square.
